Ph.D. Study Departments
Ph.D in Art History
Art History is a broad field of research spread over time and continents. The Department’s students acquire an understanding of the history of Western and Islamic culture through the ages. The study of Art History takes place through a deep analysis of paintings, sculptures, and architecture. Students will explore the links between historical and cultural events and the works of art in different ages and acquire tools that develop their visual perception and critical thinking habits.
The Department is especially proud of the high standard of teaching that it offers, the warm individual attention it’s students receive, and the close and unmediated relationship between the teachers and their students.
This program is for students with a Master’s degree, including a thesis, in Art History or other relevant fields such as general history,
archaeology, literature or philosophy, from a recognized institute of higher education in Israel or abroad. The program allows outstanding students to join the direct Ph.D. track based on the criteria set forth in the Ph.D. regulations.
The program has three tracks:
A regular track
A direct Ph.D. track
A preliminary research track
Post Ph.D. employment opportunities: Education, museum tour guiding, museum curatorship, tourism, media, auction houses and community ties, academic research and teaching.
