The Department of Theatre was established in 1995/6 and is the youngest of the three theatre departments in Israeli universities. Since 2013 the Department of Theatre has been part of the School of Art consisting of the Department of Music and the Department of Creative Arts, accordingly theatre students also take courses in the other departments.
The Department’s unique, state-of-the-art program offers theoretical knowledge and practical experience in theatre and the performing arts. The aim of the program is to train a body of creative, curious, independent, and knowledgeable artists, researchers, educators, and artists who are active in theatre in their communities, who have broad horizons and the ability to conduct and promote a high-quality intellectual and artistic discourse.
In the course of the three years of studies, students will acquire knowledge of the fundamentals of theatre language, the history of theatre and drama, the art of performance, and the place of theatre in society. They will also gain experience in professional classes, workshops, projects and productions

- A weighted grade of 500 or special admission requirements of the Faculty of Humanities.
- Personal interview—in the interview candidates will present their theatre experience and talents and discuss their goals. The interview is a key element in the consideration of whether to accept a student.
- A double major program in Social Theatre and Performance
- A single major program in SocialTheatre and Performance
- Digital Humanities Program combined with the Department of Information Systems— admission requirements for both departments must be met (see departments’ websites)
Employment options upon graduation: Community Theatre, directing, acting, theatre production, teaching theatre in formal and informal educational settings.
