The Music Department provides its students with the skills needed by 21st-century musicians. The Department provides students with both a broad and deep understanding of a wide range of subjects linked to the world of music. Students also learn musical skills (harmony, ear training, counterpoint), musicology (history and theory of Western music), world music, Arab music, music and technology, musical production, composition, jazz, and perform ensemble music in diverse styles. The Music curriculum is for students seeking an opportunity to acquire musical knowledge, enrich music listening, and enhance their music appreciation.

The Department is located in the Hecht Arts Centre  which has state-of-the-art study rooms, including a digital lab, recording studio, and concert hall. Besides the regular curriculum, the department organizes a wide range of activities in a variety of creative channels, including a concert series, a composition competition, an ensemble with diverse musical styles, the Community Experience project—music and workshops for communities of people with special needs, and many conferences. In recent years, outstanding musicians from the Department took part in delegations to Argentina, Spain, and Germany, and performed in events and ceremonies at the University and throughout Israel.
