Undergraduate Degree in Philosophy

The B.A. program aims to acquaint students with the main philosophical problems, texts, and methods, of the past and present; cultivate students’ skills in reading texts, creating and evaluating arguments, reasoning reflectively and systematically, and expressing themselves clearly in writing and discussion; and provide a solid foundation for graduate study in philosophy, and help prepare for other professions that emphasize analytical thought and argument.

- A weighted grade of 560 is required for acceptance to the single / double major tracks in Philosophy or the special admissions conditions of the Faculty of Humanities.
- Applicants for the Mosaic Program—a combined degree in Philosophy and Psychology—must have a weighted grade of 680 + an interview is required.

- Students may combine their studies with the double major program of all departments, with the exeption of Medical sciences, Learning, instruction and teacher education, and Computer science.
- The Department offers two special programs for outstanding undergraduate students:

There are not many wanted ads saying “Philosophers wanted”. Keep in mind that undergraduate students commonly combine two majors, meaning that they can take a “practical” degree and also study philosophy, which provides interest, insight, and wisdom. Also, according to research in the U.S. and other countries (see departments’ website) philosophy students have a significant edge in employment and gain important tools that will serve whatever career they choose, as long as their job involves thinking.
