The aim of the Department of Arabic Language and Arabic Literature is to broaden and deepen students’ knowledge of the layers of the Arabic language through the ages, the history of classical Arabic and modern Arab literature, and Islamic culture.
The Department will train the students to understand the various traditional and modern approaches to the development of the Arabic language and its grammar.
They will acquire various tools for analyzing literary works and phenomena and a methodological approach to genres and movements in the history of literary and other writing.

- General university admission requirements as specified on the website
- A weighted grade of 600 or special admission requirements for the Faculty of Humanities.
- A department exam
- Double major program.
- Digital Humanities Program combined with the Department of Information Systems—the admission requirements for both departments must be met.
- In the second year, students can transfer to the single major program for top students who earned a GPA of 85 or more in the Department of Arabic language and literature, and at least a 70 in the second department (at least 10 academic credits). Admission is conditioned upon an interview with the department head or a BA academic advisor and their approval. Only students with an “exempt” level in English and in Hebrew will be admitted.
Employment options upon graduation: Teaching in schools (for certified teachers), a Master’s degree and research on linguistics and literature. Translation, writing and creative writing, literary criticism.
